CCTV cameras installed on the East-West Highway

The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Law of the Sudur Paschim province has installed CCTV cameras on the East-West Highway. The CCTV cameras have been installed from Chisapani to Gaddachauki and from Attaria to the Trinagar border point.

The CCTV cameras were installed at a cost of Rs. 15.1 million to help in controlling criminal activities, crime investigation and reducing traffic jams and road accidents.

According to Ministry spokesperson Mohan Raj Joshi, 138 CCTV cameras have been installed in the sensitive areas of the road. The connected CCTV cameras have seven pan tilt zoom (PTZ) and 120 other cameras. Spokesperson Joshi said that CCTV cameras have been installed in the highway area where many people gather, at intersections, areas with public property and government offices.

Cables have been laid in an area of 108.56 km for camera connection. There are 12 stations in the area where CCTV cameras are connected.

“The work of connecting the cameras has been completed,” said Joshi. “An agreement is being worked with the Nepal Electricity Authority for regular power supply.”

With the help of CCTV cameras, human security, security of public and private property and crime control will be maintained. The CCTV cameras installed on the roads are also expected to be fruitful to reduce accidents, solve traffic problems and curb theft.

“CCTV helps to discourage violations of the road rules,” said spokesperson Joshi. The ministry has also made arrangements to monitor the use of CCTV cameras to make them effective. The CCTV cameras will be operated and managed as per CCTV Installation and Operation Procedure 2072 BS.
